HCM Records

Siberian Research dedicates this page to Siberian cats that have died, or have been diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. This listing is a small number of the Siberians that have HCM, but it helps breeders understand where HCM has been mapped in the breed. Only by understanding the risks associated with some prominent show lines, performing echocardiograms, supporting genetic research, and using careful breeding practices, we will reduce the number of Siberians with this disease.

The officers of Siberian Research would like to thank both breeders and pet owners who have openly discussed and disclosed information about HCM cases and sudden deaths in the breed. Many of these individuals have also submitted DNA to the universities studying the genes involved.
